Members Beware:

We have learned that customers of neighboring utilities have recently fallen victim to a telephone scam involving prepaid debit cards. An individual pretending to be a member services representative from the utility contacts a customer and advises them that their service will be disconnected unless a payment is made right away. To avoid disconnection, the utility customer is instructed to purchase a prepaid debit card and told to call back a number provided by the scammer and give the receipt and PIN numbers. The scammer is then granted access to the card's account.

Aiken Electric Cooperative NEVER asks our members to buy debit cards; members receive several notices prior to disconnection of service. If you receive any call that you suspect may be a scam, please report all information regarding the call to your local authorities.
